Autodesk Inventor 2018 Basic Tutorial || Loft Feature|| Along with captions and audio narration

Hello viewers, in this tutorial we would learn about the Loft feature of Autodesk Inventor by developing a solid named Hammer Head. This feature is used, when we want to create a solid by joining more than one closed profile. Sometimes optional rails and points are used that help in controlling the final outcome.

In addition to this creation process of new Work Planes, Copy/ Paste function of sketches and many more things are also covered in this tutorial.

Video Transcription

  1. Start a new part file using the metric template.
  2. Start a sketch on the XY plane.
  3. Draw a rectangle of 60 x 60 mm coincident with the centre point, using Two point centre rectangle tool.
  4. The sketch is complete so exit from the sketching mode.
  5. Turn on the visibility of XY plane from the browser bar.
  6. Create a new work plane by activating the ‘Offset from Plane’ command.
  7. Fill 25 mm as an offset value.
  8. Turn off the visibility of the XY plane.
  9. Now create a new sketch on this new work plane1.
  10. Draw a circle of 50 mm coincident with the centre point and finish the sketch.
  11. Again create another work plane at an offset distance of 25 mm from the work plane1.
  12. Turn off the visibility of the work plane1.
  13. Next, create a sketch, on the work plane2.
  14. Activate ‘Project Geometry’ tool and take the project of following point present in the previous sketch.
  15. Draw a circle coincident with these two points and exit from the sketching mode.
  16. Next, create another work plane at an offset distance of 40 mm from the work plane2.
  17. Again, turn off the visibility of previous work plane.
  18. Select the Sketch 3 from the browser bar and copy it using right click context menu.
  19. Next select work plane3 paste the copied sketch using right-click context menu.
  20. Turn off the visibility of work plane3.
  21. Activate Loft tool.
  22. Select the sketches, step by step as displayed here.
  23. Click Ok to create the Loft feature.
  24. Change the colour of the model as per your wish.
  25. Make some changes in the lighting settings to see the model clearly.
  26. Turn off the textures in the file.
  27. Save the file with the name Hammer Head.
  28. Set the current view as Home View using View Cube.
  29. Create a work plane at an offset distance of 200 mm from this face of the model.
  30. Start creating a sketch on this new work plane.
  31. Draw a line 34.55 mm away from the centre point of the model.
  32. Exit from the sketching mode.
  33. Next, create a work plane by activating ‘Angle to Plane around Edge’ command.
  34. To create the work plane first select work plane4 then select sketch line and in angle field fill 200°.
  35. Turn off the visibility of work plane4.
  36. Create a sketch over this work plane.
  37. First, take the project of this line and turn off the visibility of sketch5.
  38. Activate two-point centre rectangle tool and draw a rectangle of 150 x5 mm, coincident with the centre of the projected line.
  39. Convert the projected line into construction geometry and exit from the sketching mode.
  40. Start a new sketch over YZ Plane.
  41. Take the project of this point and close the visibility of sketch6.
  42. Draw an arc connecting centre point of the model and projected curve.
  43. Apply a dimension of 550 mm over it and exit from the sketching mode.
  44. Turn on the visibility of sketch6.
  45. Activate Loft Tool.
  46. Select following sketch and edge of the model to define sections for the loft.
  47. Activate Center Line rail option.
  48. Next select arc to define the rail and execute the command.
  49. Turn off the visibility of work plane5.
  50. Our work is complete hence save the file.
  51. This is the final outcome of our model ‘Hammer Head’.
